MIDI
MIDI in both directions
Stagehand sends MIDI to every MIDI device of the Mac – interfaces, instruments, lighting desks, a RØDECaster or programs through the IAC driver – and can be triggered by MIDI itself.
Sending
A step sends exactly one message, with named values instead of bytes: notes, control change also with 14 bits, program change, pitch bend, aftertouch, RPN and NRPN, transport, time code, System Exclusive and raw data.
Receiving
A trigger waits for note on or off, a control change with a value condition, a program change or start, continue and stop, from one device or all, with „Lernen“ (learn). With its own MIDI device “Stagehand”, every program on the Mac, a DAW for instance, sees Stagehand among its MIDI outputs.
The list
Stagehand uses only the devices on its list, each with a switch for sending and one for receiving. It recognises a device again even when it is renamed or gets a new identifier after a firmware update.
