Library
Thousands of maps from open directories
The Library (⌃⌘B) opens directories of map services: aerial images, historic maps, elevation models and ready-drawn maps from OpenStreetMap. Every service can be seen on the Earth at once with “Show on Globe” and added to “My Places” with one click.
What is in it
| Directory | Content |
|---|---|
| Editor Layer Index | currently more than 1,700 services from 77 countries: some 640 aerial images, over 500 historic aerial images, 170 historic maps, elevation models and more |
| Maps from OpenStreetMap | among them CyclOSM, OpenRailwayMap, OpenSeaMap, OpenSnowMap and maps in regional styles |
| OpenAerialMap | openly licensed images from drones, aircraft and satellites, asked for the current view |
Finding and looking
The list shows what there is at the view point, in the view or everywhere, with search and a choice by kind. Each service names its publisher, licence and the levels it has images at; the preview shows a tile per level. “Fly There” flies into its area, “Show on Globe” lays it over the Earth without adding it.
Directories of your own
“Add Directory…” takes any directory in the Editor Layer Index's format, by address or as a file, with buildings in 3D too. Services that need a key of their own or may not be used freely are marked with the reason.
